This was the newspaper notice at the time of her death: "Services for Jane Simpson, 2901 2nd Ave., who died Thursday night at her home, will be at 3 P.M. Saturday at the Dunn Funeral Home 3. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery.
A native of Scotland, Miss Simpson came to Des Moines in 1903*. She was a nurse for many years at both the State Sanitorium in Oakdale and former Sunny Crest Hospital in Dubuque, retiring 20 years ago.
She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and Adelphic Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are 3 sisters, Mrs. Ann Miles and Mrs. Elizabeth White of Des Moines and Mrs. Martha Jackson of Los Angeles."
* Other records (1900 census and family Bible) indicate that Jane's imigration year was 1880, coming to the U.S. with her parents when she was 5.
