F. Luwell Spies, 64, Leawood, Kan., former Gilmore City resident, died Monday at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital. Graveside services were held Friday in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. D. W. Newcomers' Sons Funeral Home, Overland Park, Kan., was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widow, Ruth E.; son, Jon L. Spies, Denver, Colo.; sister, Miss Naomi Spies, Marshalltown, and two grandchildren.

Mr. Spies was born at Gilmore City and was a graduate of Iowa State University, Ames in mechanical engineering.

He was a member of the Royal and Select Masters of Iowa, King Solomon Council No. 20, R. and S. M.; Royal Arch Masons of Iowa, Signet Chapter No. 38, R.A.M.; and Knights Templar, St. Aldemar, Commandery No. 30 K.T.

He was a senior chief instrument engineer ofr J. F. Pritchard and Co., Kansas City, Mo.
