Birth: Aug. 19, 1915
Chicago
Cook County
Illinois, USA
Death: Jul. 4, 1944

Known as Jack, he was born Andre Gordon Campbell, the only child of Roy and Anazine (Endrun) Campbell.

During WWII he was given command of a submarine, the USS S-28, as a Lieutenant Commander; he was a Naval Reserve Officer (the only reserve officer ever given command of a sub). He left the submarine base at Pearl Harbor on July 3 for training exercises with the Coast Guard cutter Reliance. During the late afternoon of the next day, the sub sank without a trace during one of the practice runs and Jack and his crew died in the Pacific Ocean. Their bodies were never recovered. Jack's name is inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (also known as the Punchbowl) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
