|Birth: ||May 7, 1895|
New York County
New York, USA
|Death: ||Jan. 10, 1921|
After losing his parents, James traveled on an "orphan train" from New York City -- under the auspices of the Children's Aid Society of New York City (one of over 120,000 similar orphans who made the trek between 1854 & 1929 hoping to find a new start "out West"); he was adopted before 1900. The parish priests were to keep an eye on the children.
James was adopted by Bernard "Ben" & Mary A. (Vorgert) Imdieke in Stearns County, MN.
On 5 June 1917, when he registered for the draft, James was living in Bluffton (Township) in Otter Tail County, MN; working as a "hired man" for Alois G. Imdieke, the younger brother of his adopted father. He was still working there for the 1920 Federal Census.
NOTE: Death Certificate stated he had been discharged from the US Army (dates of service = not specified); he never married.
Cause of death was listed as stomach cancer while being treated at Saint Mary Hospital in Minneapolis; James died at age 25.
