Marvin Johnson, 71, died Monday, December 18, 2000 at Kittson Memorial Health Care Center in Hallock.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Halma with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Corienne Jacobson was the organist, and the soloist was Lisa Proulx. Casketbearers were Shane Olson, Jim Proulx, Robbie Turner, Scott Turner, Dean Wilson, Gregory Turner, Billy Olson and Rudy Walker. Military honors were accorded by the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Post 315. Interment was in Eidsvold Church Cemetery in Halma with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.
Marvin Oliver Olson was born on April 14, 1929 at Halma, the son of Henry and Esther (Anderson) Johnson. He attended grade school at Halma and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1947. Marvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served in Guam with the U.S. Army and later graduated from Beck Radio School in Minneapolis.
On October 5, 1951, Marvin was united in marriage to Doris Grindberg at Minneapolis. The couple resided in Minneapolis where he was employed in district sales by S & M Company. The couple moved to Watertown, S.D. where Marvin remained in sales until 1967 when he returned to Halma to help his father in the gravel business.
Marvin was very active in the Olaf Lokken American Legion Post 315, serving as 9th District adjutant. He was a life member of the American Legion and Kennedy VFW. He was also an active member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the pursuit of his hobby as a gunsmith.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Doris; a sister, Lola (Loren) Germundson of Karlstad; his stepmother, Marion Johnson of Karlstad; two stepbrothers, Dean (Cheryl) McNatton of Bismarck, N.D. and Duane McNatton of St. Paul; a stepsister, Bonnie Carlson of Dilworth; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lynden.
