L. G. was born in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of the late Reverend L.G. Foster Sr. and Lillian Foster. L.G. received Christ as his Savior and was baptized at an early age. He has been a devoted member of the St. John's Lutheran Church (ELCA) for many years and has served on many boards and committees there. His formal education in the Dallas Independent School District. He graduated from Lincoln High School. L.G. received his Bachelors Degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA., and earned his Masters Degree from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. He also attended Southern Methodist University where he did extensive work in Art Education. After completing his studies L.G. served as an art teacher at Bishop College and in the Dallas Independent School District. L.G. was a retired educator from the Dallas Independent School District. In addition to having been an educator, his career included working at Sanger-Harris as the Manpower Coordinator. He also did work as a caterer and was a licensed Real Estate agent. L.G. served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge from the military services.
While family was Mr. Foster's main priority, his commitment to the community was evidenced by service in several civic and non-profit organizations. L.G. served as a member, an officer, a board member and a member of the executive committee of the African-American Museum, Dallas Arts Magnet, Kiwanis Club, Dallas Alliance, Dallas Forty, Fair Park Task Force, Dallas black Chamber of Commerce, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and the Boy Scouts of America.
