Son of Melvin and Muriel (NEWSOME) REDMOND. Married first to Dorothy Elizabeth "Dot" ADERHOLD. Married second to Gwendolyn "Gwen" (PHILLIPS) DANIEL. Joe was a retired conductor for the Central of Georgia Railroad and a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Columbus. He had two daughters and three sons by his first wife.

"COLUMBUS, GA— Thomas Joseph 'Joe' Redmond, Sr., 87, of Columbus, Ga., died Sunday December 31, 2006, at Oak Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Morningside Baptist Church with the Reverend Bill Shorey and the Reverend Jimmy Cook officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Redmond was born March 28, 1919, in Columbus, Ga., son of the late Melvin Redmond and Muriel Newsome Redmond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Redmond, his brothers, James Douglas Redmond, Melvin Sims Redmond, Jr., and his grandson, Thomas Joseph "T.J." Redmond III. He was a retired Conductor with the Central of Georgia Railroad and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, former church clerk and Building Superintendent for Morningside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Phillips Daniel Redmond of Columbus; his children and spouses, Rodney and Allen Redmond of Cataula, Ga., Woody and Chris Daniel of Marietta, Ga., Susan Redmond of Columbus, Lee and Eman Daniel of Manchester, Ga., Thomas Joseph and Alice Redmond, Jr. of Peachtree City, Ga., Pamela and LTG Thomas Metz of Port Monroe, Va., Col. Andrew Mims and Stephanie Redmond of Honolulu, Hawaii; brothers, John Robert Redmond of Columbus, and George W. Redmond of Marietta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
