LADDON, JANE KELLY July 22,1930 - August 24, 2011
Jane Kelly Laddon was born on July 22, 1930 in Flagstaff, AZ. She moved with her family to the San Diego area during middle school, and graduated from Point Loma High in 1947. Jane studied art at SDSU after which she married, Robert Leslie Laddon in 1950, whom she had met in high school. With her marriage, Jane began a life long love of golf which she continued playing into her 70's. At her peak, Jane enjoyed a 10 handicap and was recognized as one of the stand out female golfers at the San Diego Country Club (SDCC). She played competitively for many years with SDCC Team Play and served on the Board of the Southern California Women's Golf Association as well as being elected as one of the first women to the Board of the de Anza Country Club in Borrego Springs, CA.
Jane and Les raised their three daughters in Point Loma. During those years, Jane became deeply engaged in community work through Jr. League, Makua (including being very active in their galas) and with her daughters, in MADCAPS, a mother daughter philanthropy group.
Jane was widowed in 1999 after 49 years of marriage. Ever adventurous and spontaneous, she continued to travel, including taking her three youngest grandchildren on a "once in a lifetime" cruise from Barcelona to Istanbul. In 2001 Jane was re acquainted with Edward Baker, a retired doctor with a home in Borrego Springs. They were married in 2002 and spent a wonderful eight years together traveling extensively, including trips to Paris, an Atlantic crossing on the Queen Mary, and a cruise through the Panama Canal. Their "down time" was spent with family and friends playing bridge and golf.
They lived seasonally in homes between Borrego Springs, Pt. Loma and Orinda, CA until Ed's passing in 2010. During those years Jane continued to express her love of art and entertaining through dinner parties for friends and family, always featuring beautiful flowers and original tables.
After a long illness, Jane passed peacefully with her family by her side on August 24, 2011.
She is survived by Christine Laddon Roberts of Redondo Beach (John Roberts); Cynthia Laddon Kaase of Pt. Loma; Ann Laddon of Del Mar (Adrian Jaffer); six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held Friday, Sept. 9th, from 2p.m.-4p.m. at the San Diego Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions to San Diego Hospice or your favorite charity are encouraged.
