In 1937, James Maw a fervent young Christian was transferred to H.M.S. Glorious an aircraft carrier. He served on it for two and a half years with many of the same crew.until the carrier and her two escorting destroyers were sunk 200 miles west of Narvik, Norway.
Over five years later, one of the few survivors of the Glorious sought out some of Jimmy's friends and told them that the day before the loss of the carrier he had asked permission to preach the gospel to the crew, and the captain had given consent. On the day of the preaching 500 men confessed the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. Out of 1515 crew of the three British ships only 45 survived.
