He enlisted in the Union Army at Belleville IL July 1 1862 being assigned to Co.F. 82nd regiment, being the famous Hecker regiment. He was transfered to V.D.R.C. Apr 13 1864. After 18 months service, he was severly wounded, and was confined to the army hospital for 1 1/2 years.
He was born in Oberamtweiblingen, Buergmansweiler, Germany.
He came to America in 1859, locating in Lebanon IL. After the war he returned to St Jacob and engaged in farming. In 1876 the couple moved to Highland, where he pursued gardening.
He left hehind his wife, 3 sons and 4 daughters, and 2 brothers.
