Major Alexander Casseday was on Gen. Buckner's Staff at Fort Donelson where he was taken prisoner. He was taken to Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio. He died there 24 March 1862. His father and his wife were allowed to bring him home for burial. He is buried in Section B, Lot 75 Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY. However, there is a headstone that was erected for him at Camp Chase in error. There are many errors that were made when headstones were ordered for Camp Chase.

Major Casseday was born on 23 January 1836 in Louisville, KY. He is the son of Samuel Casseday and Eliza McFarland.
