| Birth: | Jan. 1, 1918 | | Death: | Jul. 13, 1944 |  Ogdensburg Journal - Monday August 21, 1944 PFC Robert W. Gonyou was killed in action in France on July 10, a telegram received yesterday by his wife from the Adjutant General states.
The telegram follows: "The Secretary of War desires that I tender his deep sympathy to you in the loss of your husband, Pvt Robert W Gonyou, who was previously reported missing in action. Report now received states he was killed in action July 19 in Franc. Letter follows. - J.A. Ulio, The Adjutant General
Private First Class Gonyou was born Jan 1, 1918 in Massena, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gonyou, 120 Riverside Ave. He married the former Miss Katherine Woods of this city Aug 29, 1941 at Notre Dame Church. He attended St. Peter's and Holy Cross schools.
He was inducted Jan 6, 1942 and received his training at Fort Niagara, Camp McLellan, Camp McCoy, and Fort Meade before going overseas. He arrived in England in April and two weeks later was ordered to France. on Aug 9 his wife received word from the War Department that he had been missing in action since July 19.
Surviving are his wife, his parents, a sister, Mrs. William Delaney, two brothers, Cpl Merrill Gonyou, who is at Camp Davis, NC and Sgt Leonard Gonyou, who is somewhere in France; three nieces, three nephews and several nieces and nephews. Note: New YOrk PVT 385 Inf World War II | | | Burial:
