Death: Jan. 29, 1909

Julia E. Brokaw Bailey was born in Cayuga County, New York, April 17, 1842. Here she resided for about eight years, when with her parents, she moved to Huron County, Ohio, where the family lived five years, after which they moved to New London, Iowa, from thence they came to Luray, Missouri, about 1855, and there she resided through her life. Youth, middle age and old age have together mingled there and like a mountain with a snow capped peak, so has her life towered ever higher and higher, brighter and brighter towards the sphere of immortality.

On August 31, 1862, at the marriage altar she received the vows of holy wedlock, becoming the wife of Mr. Paris Bailey. Seven children welded more perfectly the union. Two of these died in infancy. There remains two daughters and three sons, Alice and Ann, Clarence and Alfred of Luray and A. M Bailey of Kirksville, Missouri, besides two grandchildren, Claire and Victor.

For about four years Mrs. Bailey has been afflicted in a way which has demanded the closest care on the part of the family. About 7 weeks ago her bodily crisis came. Little by little she let go life's grip until on last Friday morning at 2:45 o'clock, that still hour of the night, Mrs. Bailey passed from her suffering to the arms of her Master into the palace of God. At the bedside the children watched the departure, they bode farewell.

February 5, 1892, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized into the Baptist Church at Luray. Here she was ever ready to do her part. We can imagine her saying in her humble manner, "My talents are few dearest Master." Yet she did her part. That part was not yours or mine; it was hers, and God said to her, "Well done."

The funeral was conducted at the Baptist Church, February 1, 1909, by Dr. H. H. Marriot, of Clayton, Illinois, assisted by Rev. W. M. Cooney, of Kahoka. The body was interred in the Combs Cemetery.
