Completed his earthly mission on Saturday from a brain injury sustained in a fall. Born in Moroni, Utah. Son of William K. and Elizabeth Spens Olsen. Married Nancy Lorene Hollands July 30, 1953 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Graduate of South High School, Salt Lake City, Utah and the Salt Lake Technical College. Loyal to his family, religion and country. Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Called to Fort Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis. Retired from the Army Reserve as a 1st Sgt at Fort Douglas. His service and dedication inspire other family members to serve in the U.S. Army. One served during Desert Storm and other currently serving in Iraq. High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Was a Boy Scoutmaster. Directly or indirectly responsible for more than 300 boys obtaining the rank of Eagle. Recipient of the Silver Beaver in 1979. Patriarch of a large family. Supported his children and grandchildren in Scouting, talent recitals, sports and education. Help his family accomplish their goals. Retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Served as President of the US Postal Workers Union for the state of Utah.
Survived by wife, eight children: James D. (Lori), Stephen Spens (Tara Dawn), Rexene Boyd (David), Rubylynn Vernon (Kelly), Marian Hansen (Thayn), Thomas William (Nancy), Louise Atkinson (Brian), Jayne Hogan (Robert) 18 grandsons and 18 granddaughters; nine great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents, brother Clair K. Olsen and grandson Alex Hansen.
