ABBOTT, JOHNMarysville Daily Appeal – 8/13/1899, p 4 – Died: At the Yuba County Hospital, August 11th, John Abbott, a native of Ohio, aged 58 years. – The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the undertaking parlors of R. E. Bevan under the auspices of Corinth Post, No. 80, G.A.R. Interment G.A.R. plot City cemetery. Marysville Daily Appeal – 8/13/1899, p 1 – Answered the Final Taps: An Old Soldier Joins the Hosts of His Comrades On the Other Shore. – John Abbott, an old soldier, died at the county hospital Friday night. He served during the Civil War in Co. L, 2nd California Cavalry. The mother of the deceased, Mrs. Dunham, is still living and is a resident of Igo, Shasta county. – Deceased was 58 years of age and was a native of Ohio. – The funeral will take place form the undertaking parlors of R. E. Bevan at 3 o'clock this afternoon, under the auspices of Corinth Post, No. 80, G.A.R. The interment will be made in their plat in the City cemetery.Marysville Daily Appeal - 8/15/1899 - His Battles O'er - Comrade Abbott Laid at Rest By His Soldier Friends - The funeral of Comrade John Abbott, an old war veteran took place on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, from the undertaking parlors of R. E. Bevan. He was buried with Military Honors by the members of Corinth Post, No. 80 G. A. R. The services were read by the Commander of the Post, Allan Cooley, and by John Colford, Sr., acting as chaplain. - A shooting squad from Company D., N.G.C., under the command of Sergeant George McCoy, fired a volley over the grave of the old warrior in the G.A.R. plot in the City cemetery. - The following old veterans acted as pall-bearers: John Colford, Sr., James Van Buskirk, I. Luke, George Williams, John Palmer and M. C. Ehrman.
