Selma Mae Anderson, 83, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1927, in Kahoka, Mo., she was the daughter of Otho C. and Lena M. Bane Salyers. On Nov. 24, 1946, she married Gerald Wayne Anderson in rural Mount Union. He died June 23, 2003.
Mrs. Anderson farmed with her husband southwest of Mount Union, and moved to Mount Pleasant when they sold the farm in 1980. She worked 10 years as a nurses aide at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. She graduated from Kahoka High School in 1945.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, and former member of Mount Union United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She played piano, organ, harmonica and ukulele. She and sister Lorene sang and entertained at rodeos and other places, including a talent contest at a Toby and Susie Show, which they won.
She was a Chicago Cubs fan. She was a gifted cook and cooked for the company that stopped at Midwest Old Threshers each year. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, lawn care and latch hooking.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Neuweg of Mount Pleasant and Denise Proctor of Fort Madison; two sons, Gary Anderson of Wapello and Eric Anderson of Prairie City; one sister, Reva Hoenig of Mount Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant.
The funeral for Mrs. Anderson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Herbert Shafer and Jeffrey McPheron officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mount Union.
A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church Music Ministry.
