Pat Burns, 71, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at her home in Conchas Dam, N.M.
She was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Winters, Texas, to Johnie and Fannie Davis Townsend. When she was young, the family moved to the area of Hereford, Texas, where she attended school.
On Sept. 29, 1954, she married John R. Burns in Westway, Texas. After their marriage, they moved to Kearny County, where they farmed and she was a homemaker. In 1958, the family moved to California. In 1964, they moved to Hereford, where she was the bookkeeper for McCaslin Lumber Co. They moved to Lakin in 1974. While residing in Lakin, she became a registered health information technologist for Kearny County Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she and her husband moved to Conchas Dam.
Mrs. Burns was a member of the American Health Information Management Association, Quay County Extension Club and First Baptist Church of Lakin. She enjoyed fishing, oil painting, reading, shopping, traveling and being adventurous, participating in church and social activities, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, John Robert Burns of Lakin and Jerry Ray Burns of Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Paula Jeanice Burns of Garden City and Pamela Jayanna Dussart of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a sister, Terri Jan Johnson of Houston; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Jane Burns; her parents; a brother, Johnny Mac Townsend; a sister, Sandra K. Combs; a niece, Eugenia Kay Brown; and two grandsons, Preston Trip Burns and Jerry Burns Jr.
Funeral was at the Wesleyan Church in Lakin. Burial was at Lakin Cemetery.
