Ollie Myrtice "Myrtie" Watson Hughes
Birth: Feb. 28, 1890
Mississippi, USA
Death: Nov. 7, 1954
Lums Chapel
Lamb County
Texas, USA

Myrtie was the daughter of Henry Andrew F. Watson and Joanah Ruth Castle. She married Rev Willis Harley Hughes in 1906 and they had five children; George Perry Hughes, who died in infancy, Henry Elwin Hughes, Truett Watson Hughes, Myrtie Lois Hughes Gregory, and Alda Marie Hughes Burnett.

Myrtie was a devoted minister's wife who taught Sunday School classes, played the church piano and often prepared food for sick or troubled church members. She and Rev Hughes served in a number of West Texas towns for thirty years, including Abilene, Levelland, Maple, Petersburg, Whiteface, Morton and Lums Chapel, near Littlefield.

Her funeral service was held at First Baptist Church of Littlefield and her two favorite songs were sung, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." Her pallbearers were deacons of Lums Chapel Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers were members of her Sunday School class there.

Myrtie was predeceased by her half-sister, Mozelle Watson. She was survived by her husband, four children and their spouses, five brothers and three sisters, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her brothers were John Bryant Watson of Fort Worth, Texas; Floyd DeWitt Watson of Stanton, Texas; Oscar Fuller Watson of Canoga Park, California; Grover C. Watson of Tahoka, Texas; and Price Magness Watson of Clarksdale, Mississippi. Her three surviving sisters were Essie Mae Heizer (William R.) of Dublin, Texas; Lillie Maurine Watson Boswell (Arthur Dale} and Violet Idell Watson Montague (Jason), both of DeLeon, Texas.
