John Jefferson (Jack) Elliott married first spouse, Melissa Adeline Moore, on December 11, 1890, in Columbia County, Arkansas.

(Ref: CARLSBAD CURRENT-ARGUS, Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, dated for Monday, November 16, 1953, front page and page 2, reads as follows:

Jack J. Elliott, justice of the peace and police judge for the village of Loving, died yesterday at his home, 218 South Fourth in Loving, at the age of 79. He had been in poor health for almost a year.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Loving Baptist Church with the Rev. L.W. Skinner, pastor of the church, in charge. He will be assisted by the Rev. C.M. Brister.

Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Davis, Jim Sykes, Troy Caviness, Jim McCall, Art Riffenburgh and Howard Hinton. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Goff, Tony Troise, Johnnie Hill, Elmer Yarbro, Joe Yarbro, C.P. Pardue, E.W. Parchman, G.R. Howard, Bob Ingalls, Roy Helper, Ervin Mason, Jim Stamps, Buddy Yarbro, J. Arnie Qualls, Nolan Utz, Dr. R.J. McLaughlin, L.C. Burkham, Bill High, Albert Harvey, Tom Ball, Bill Nymeyer, Bonnie Narramore, Clarence Reid and H.C. Lawrence.

Born June 19, 1874, in Cyprus Forks, Ark., Elliott lived in Loving 25 years and was a member of the Baptist Church. He married the former Lillian R. Lewis in Council Grove, Kans., Sept. 23, 1918, and they moved to Eddy County from Anson, Tex. 25 years ago.

During World War II he was a roof inspector at the Carlsbad Air Base. He served as police judge for the village of Loving for eight years and justice of the peace for 20 years.

Because of his bad health, he resigned these positions recently, and his wife was appointed to fill the unexpired terms.

Survivors include his widow and one brother, Frank Elliott of Carlsbad.
