On August 3, 1862 , he married Hettie Hatfield, formerly of Fentress County, Tennessee, daughter of Pheriba Helm and Lewis Hatfield of Saline County, Illinois.
They lived the twenty years of their married lives in Hamilton County, Illinois.
Madison worked in a wagon shop and farmed while in Hamilton County.
In the 1880's he left Illinois to settle in Missouri.
In 1891 he married his second wife, Amanda. They were residing in the Choctaw section of Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in 1900.
