Valorus is the son of Isaac and Lucinda Coryell (both born in NY). His siblings are: Francis, David, Maria, and Daniel Coryell.
At the time of the 1850 census the family lived in North Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana. In 1851 they were among the first to come to Oregon. During the 1860 census the family was living in Linn County Oregon. His father was a carpenter.
He was in Company F of the 1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment, a Civil War era military regiment recruited in Oregon for the Union Army. The regiment was formed in November 1864. At full strength, it was composed of ten companies of foot soldiers. The regiment was used to guard trade routes and escorted immigrant wagon trains from Fort Boise to the Willamette Valley. Its troops were used to pursue and suppress Indian raiders in eastern Oregon and the Idaho Territory. Several detachments accompanied survey parties and built roads in central and southern Oregon. The regiment's last company was mustered out of service on July 1867. (Wikipedia).
In 1860 Valorus' brother David died at 21. In 1870 Valorus lived in Linn County with his parents. In 1890 and 1900 he was single and lived in Marion County. In 1901 he entered the Oregon Soldiers' Home in Roseburg, Oregon from Linn County, Oregon. He died there on January 14, 1911.
