Civil War Veteran. Served with the 4th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery. Some of the Battles the 4th participated in were Chattanooga and Chickamauga.

From his discharge papers from the Civil War:

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Know ye, that John Jones, a Private of Lieutenant Flansburry's
4th Indiana battery VOLENTEERS who enrolled on the 5th day of September 1861 to serve during the war is hereby discharged from the service of the United States, this 23rd day of April, 1863, at Nashville, Tenn by reasons of Sergeons Certificate of Disability.

Said John Jones was born in England, is Tenty Three years of age, Five feet 2 1/2 inches high, Light complexion, Light eyes, Dark hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a Farmer.

GIVEN at Nashville, Tenn, this 23rd day of April 1863.
