He was the son of Okey Sr. and Gladys Santee.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lionel Gay and R.V. "Joe" Santee and sister, Bettie Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maxine; daughters and husbands, Johnna and Bill Lillich of Kent, Julie and Jimmy Wallace of Doylestown and Lisa and Bob Szeles of Jackson Township; grandchildren, Eric Gordon, Jamie and Justin Wallace, Collin, Rachel, and Fiona Szeles; sister, Virginia Booth; and brothers, Basil, Frank and Bill Santee; and additional family members Steve and David Lillich.
Okey Lee Santee, Jr., served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1953 with a B.A. in music. He retired from Barberton High School in 1980, where he had worked as the music and choral director. Mr. Santee served as an organist and choir director for many area churches.
A memorial service of music and celebration will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2002 at the United Church of Christ in Kent (1427 Horning Rd.), Rev. Paul Ashby and Rev. F. Patrick Russell officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service and at a reception immediately following at the church. Inurnment Rose Hill Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ in Kent and/or WKSU Radio. Special thanks to the caring staffs at Akron City Hospital (especially the dialysis unit) and Stow Glen Retirement Village.
