Stephen E. Singleton of Canal Fulton, OH, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2006 in Mercy Medical Center. He. was 63 years old.
Steve was born on July 9, 1943 to the late Vincent and Edna Singleton in Louisville, KY. He was a Civil Engineering graduate of the University of Louisville prior to relocating to Ohio. He was employed in private industry such as Union Carbide, Aetna Casualty and the former Babcock & Wilcox for 17 years prior to working in the public sector.
Stephen retired from the office of the Stark County Commissioner in 2003, following 16 years as County Administrator, serving under 11 different commissioners. He was known for his remarkable memory and fierce dedication. Previously, he was the first administrator of the Village of Canal Fulton for five years as well as, their clerk/treasurer. He was also active on the Regional Planning Commission, serving for over five years as chairman. Stark County was Stephen's priority with every decision he made.
Being a devoted family man, Steve enjoyed a longtime family interest in boating on Lake Erie. He also enjoyed politics, current events, poetry and creative writing. His family, friends and colleagues will miss his daily humor and quick wit. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Hope Singleton; endeared son, Justin Singleton; and sister, Marilyn Malcolm.
