Floyd served as a Private First Class, Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 20, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Floyd was "Killed In Action" near Mount Maggiore, Italy during the war

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on August 23, 1948.

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (Virginia) instead of his state of residence, as was normally done, (Maryland).
