Vivian Louise Sandberg Woolley passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the age of 86.
Vivian was born in Grantsville, Utah; the fourth of eight children of Daniel Swen Sandberg and Susan Jane Hammond. Viv experienced a happy childhood, learning to "make her own fun."
She matured into an amazingly accomplished woman. Her family will always remember the many things she created out of nothing to make their home cheerful and lovely. In December of 1947 she eloped with her sweetheart Joseph Anderson Woolley. They remained happily married for the rest of her life, a marriage of over 60 years. After Joe's graduation, they moved to Honolulu to establish a dental practice, to be near his family, and to raise their three children. In 1958, they returned to Salt Lake City and found their niche, a "piece of dirt" on 18th Avenue. Vivian's ability to extend open arms to newcomers in the neighborhood prompted others to think of her as the "Welcome Wagon Lady". She and Joe shared from their bounteous summer garden, and regularly entertained, including many others in their activities.
Home was the heart and impetus for Vivian to express her love for others. Easy to talk to, happy to be around, loyal to family and life-long friends, supportive and a cheerleader to Utah's sports teams, she lived life with enthusiasm, abundant love, graciousness, and an all encompassing gift to make others feel important and loved. Outside of home, Vivian held many church callings. Her favorite was the 20 plus years in the scouting program. Of great pleasure and grandmotherly pride was seeing her only grandson receive his Eagle Scout award. She also was active in the Utah Womens Dental Auxiliary, and treasurer and president of the Salt Lake Mother's Club. Her love of the outdoors included boating, camping, hiking and fishing activities her children still cherish, although none can catch as many fish.
Surviving Vivian are her husband, Joe, two siblings, Cal and Donna, children, Linda Louise Malouf (Don), Kurt William Woolley (Susie), Joanna Trout (John), four grand-daughters, one grandson, two great-grandsons and one great-grand-daughter. She will be terribly, terribly missed by family and friends.
Funeral Services for Vivian will be held on Mon. February 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Emigration 6th Ward, 589 E. 18th Ave, Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may call on Sun. evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and on Mon. morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the Services.
Interment: Grantsville City Cemetery.
