Minuteman, Revolutionary Soldier

John Emory was the ancestor of the numerous Emory families in Rindge in the late 1700s through the 1800s. His ancestry is not recorded in the "Town History" except, he was born in Topsfield, MA in 1750 where he married Elizabeth Perkins. They came to Rindge, NH in 1771 and settled in the south-west part of the town. John and Elizabeth had eight children. He died March 26, 1839, aged 88 years.

In the Revolution John Emory was in 1775 a member of Capt. Nathan Hale's Co. of minutemen upon the alarm of Lexington and Concord. He was a signatory of the "Association Test" in Rindge in 1776. John was in Lieut. Asa Sherwin's Co. in Col. Samuel Ashley's Regiment at Ticonderoga in 1777, and a member of Col. Enoch Hale's Regiment that served in Rhode Island in 1778.
