Death of Charles McLean Sr.
Charles A. McLean Sr. was born in Hartford, Conn, in 1863 and died at his home in Nokomis, Illinois, Saturday, October 19, 1918, at the age of 55 years, two months and two days.
Death resulted from asthma. His last illness covered a period of only one week but he had been a sufferer from that disease for fifteen years.
He was united in marriage to Jeanette McFarlane (McFarland) in 1886. To this union were born fourteen children, three dying in infancy. He is survived by his wife and the following named eleven children: Robert and William, soldiers in France; Mrs. Jos. Bill of Collinsville; Minnie, Charles, Thomas, Jennie, Marguerite, John, Mabel and Irene, all of Nokomis. There are also four grand-children.
He also leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. James Ray of Morris, Ill., and one brother, Thomas McLean of Dallas, Texas.
From Connecticut, the state of his birth, the deceased went to Braidwood, Ill., when two years of age. From there he went to South Wilmington, from where he moved to Livingston and from the last mentioned place he came to Nokomis where he spent the last eleven years of his life and for eleven years served as checkweighman at the Keller mine, No. 10. The fact that he so long held this position shows the high esteem in which he was held by his fellow members of Local Union 1484, U.M.W. of A. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias of long standing.
Funeral services were conducted at the family home in Kettelkamp's Addition at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon by Rev. G.C. Alexander of the Presbyterian church and burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery.--Nokomis Press, October 24, 1918
