Obituary: Jerome Evans
Jerome Evans died at the home of his son, Elmer Evans, No 6 Flower street, on Sunday, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 8 days. He leaves two sons, Elmer and Charles, the latter of New Britain, and a brother. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having served as a member of Company E, Eighth C V following his mustering in on Sept 25, 1861. He was promoted to corporal on Oct 22, 1862, and re-enlisted as a veteran on Dec 24, 1863. He was wounded at the battle of Walthall Junction, Va on May 7 1864, and was discharged for disability on Feb 20, 1865. He was a member of Mansfield Post, No 53, G.A.R. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be conducted by the Rev A.W. Hazen, D.D., pastor of the North church, and at the grave there will be a G.A.R. service. Mansfield Post will furnish the pall bearers. The burial will be in the Soldiers' plot at Indian Hill. Mr Evans was a tinner by trade. Of late, he has spent most of his time at the Soldiers' Home in Noroton.

Funeral notice: Funeral of Jerome Evans
The funeral of Jerome Evans will be held from the chapel at Indian Hill on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev Dr Hazen and the G.A.R. The deceased left three brothers, J.B. Evans, Theodore Evans and Thos H Evans, and three sisters, Mrs Mary A Dunbar of Torrington, Mrs Louise [Lewis] Northrop of Wallingford, and Mrs Augusta Eaton of Brooklyn, N.Y. There are two sons, Elmer of this city and Charles of New Britain.
