Moss Bluff - Desire "Don" "Pappy" Istre, 91, passed away March 14, 2012 in a local nursing home.

He was a native of Egan and has been living in Moss Bluff for the last 40 years. He served in the Army during World War 11 and the Korean War. He was retired honorably from both, at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a cook and deck hand on the tugboats, he did television repair work and worked on small tools in his later years. Pappy also liked to cook, hunt, fish, camping and being with family and friends and having fun.

He is survived by his sister, Evelina (Sis) DeMary, children, James H & Carol Istre of Oklahoma; Bonnie & Rollie Bang of Westlake, Rose Johnson of Moss Bluff, John E. and Deborah Istre of Moss Bluff, Daniel P & Debbie Istre of Mississippi, Darleen & Holmer Goodrich of Virginia, Patrick Istre of Alabama; 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 son and 1 grandson.

His visitation will begin Monday, March 19, 2012 from 6pm until 9pm at the Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. The service will be held Tuesday, ? at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Luke Liechty officiating. Burial will take place at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, Louisiana.
