Funeral services for Ida M. Cunningham, 69, of Leesville, Louisiana were held Friday, June 28, 2013, at the New Willow Missionary Baptist Church in Leesville. Burial followed in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.

Ida M. Scott was born the 3rd child of James and Pearl Scott in Fairfield, Alabama. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama and had an unwavering faith in God. She was a faithful parishioner at New Willow Baptist Church where she was lovingly known as the lady with the hats. Known to be easy going, she was a great friend and confidante to many. As the ultimate hostess, she never met a stranger and could always magically produce a casserole if you happened to drop by. She loved cooking, gardening and being creative; she could definitely rival Martha Stewart. For Ida, family came first and she was very fierce protector. She loved spending time with her two granddaughters, especially playing games and shopping. She met her husband, Doug, in 7th grade. The two attended Fairfield Industrial High School and married in 1967 and had two daughters. As a military wife, she continually rose to whatever challenge was before her and excelled in everything she did. She was the secretary for the first NAACP chapter in Fairfield, Alabama and was active in the Civil Rights movement. While stationed in Vilseck, Germany she was the president of the NCO Wives Club for several years, as well as the first Black Mayor in the community. After her husband retired, they made their home in Leesville, LA and she continued to befriend and touch the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Ida was predeceased by her father, James, her Mother, Pearl, brothers Algie and Theodis.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband; three daughters; two granddaughters; her two sisters; a host of nieces, nephews and so many very dear friends. We love you!

Services were under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
