MILLERSBURG -- Thomas D. Gindlesberger, 86, passed away April 19, 2012, at his home from cancer.
He was born April 15, 1926, to Howard D. and Elma (Burkey) Gindlesberger in Millersburg, and married Mary L. McBride on Aug. 17, 1951, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Columbus.
He was a 1944 graduate of Millersburg High School and went into the U.S. Navy the next day. He was trained in Memphis, Tenn., becoming a pilot of the TBM torpedo bomber which operated from the aircraft escort carrier, the Bonhomme Richard in the South Pacific during World War II.
Tom graduated in 1950 from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of science degree in commerce and business administration. He attended night school at Franklin University Law School in Columbus, receiving his LLB in 1955. He also received a J.D. in law from Capital University Law School.
He was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives as the Holmes County Representative in 1953 and was re-elected to successive terms until 1966. He then decided not to run for re-election when the state was redistricted and Holmes County was combined with several other counties receiving only one representative to the General Assembly.
He opened his law practice in Millersburg in 1955 upon passing the exam for the Ohio Bar and continued practicing law for 51 years, retiring in July 2007 and closing his law office.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
