LOUDONVILLE -- Dean Edward Stitzlein, 56, of Loudonville, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at his residence after a long illness.

Services will be Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville with Pastor Terry Ruther officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Monday, Oct. 8, from 5-8 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Board of Governors, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Brain Tumor Institute, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland 44195.

Dean was born May 23, 1951, in Ashland, the son of Robert W. and Colleen Jeanette (Dean) Stitzlein and married Joy Merrell on Aug. 16, 1986. She survives.

He was a 1969 graduate of Loudonville High School and attended Kent State University in Ravenna until the fall of 1970. He spent a semester in Iran as an exchange student, then returned to complete his education as a computer programmer and consultant at Ohio State University in Columbus, graduating in 1973.

He had worked for two years at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., two years in The Hague, Netherlands, and returned again to Ohio State University to complete his master's degree in computer science in 1979. He then was a self-employed computer consultant and programmer for various companies.

In 2000, he moved back to his family's farm near Loudonville. He enjoyed farming and loved spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 21 years are children, Ian Stitzlein and Dawn Stitzlein; a stepson, Michael Novielli; his parents of Loudonville; brothers, Dan (Lisa) Stitzlein, Skip (Darla) Stitzlein and Doug (Michelle) Stitzlein; sisters, Debbie (Galen) Carver and Doreen (John) Edmondson; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Loudonville.
