George Edward "Ed" Gardner Sr., 74, of Eldersburg, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Northwest Hospital Center.
Born Oct. 25, 1937, in Sykesville, he was the son of the late George Nathaniel and Mabel Bennett Gardner. Twice married, he was the husband of Nancy Ann Gardner, who died Dec. 10, 1995; and of Margaret R. Gardner, whom he married in 1998.
He was a 1957 graduate of Sykesville High School. He was employed for 17 years at the Eldersburg Esso as a mechanic for his late brother, Richard Gardner. He then went to work for Montgomery County as a mechanic and retired from the Montgomery County Police Motor Pool.
He was an active member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Etchison since the late 1950s. He attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church as a youth. He was a long time member and past president of the Damascus Travel Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children George Edward Gardner Jr. and wife Jane, of Frederick, James "Jim" Gardner of Mount Airy, and Carol Ann Gardner, of Sykesville; step-daughters Diane Banner and Carole Tormollan; a sister, Frances Fadely, of Westminster; grandchildren Ryan and Justin; step-grandchildren Mark, Donna, Chrissy, Angela, and Mason; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by siblings Mary Fabrick, Nellie Earl, Richard "Dick" Gardner, and Anabel Wagner.
