MORTON, IL - Cecil Earl Kistler, 85, formerly of Morton, passed away at 1:58 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Baltimore Street Care Center in Mesa, Ariz., from complications of congestive heart failure.

Cec was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Lyman, Neb., to Elmer and Mae (Cecil) Kistler. He married Bertha (Caplan) Kistler on Sept. 7, 1947, in Peoria. She preceded him in death.

Cec was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 6th Infantry Division in the Philippines and Japan.

He held degrees from Brown's Business College in Peoria as well as Upper Iowa University.

A health inspector for the Peoria County Health Department from 1959 to 1969, Cec worked in public health with the DuPage County Health Department and served as the head of the health department for the village of Palatine, Ill.

After he retired in 1983, Cec and Bert split their time between Morton, Ill., and Mesa, Ariz., until her death in 1997. He moved to Arizona full time in 1999.

Cec and Bert were avid square dancers around Peoria, and he began ballroom dancing after her death.

He was a Mason and a member of the VFW, and he enjoyed photography and travel.

Cec will be interred in Springdale Cemetery next to his beloved wife. Services are pending.
