In ill health for six weeks, Elmer E. Kistler, 67, of Cottage Hills, a former employe of Superior Excavating Co., died Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He had been a patient in the hospital since last Friday.
Mr. Kistler, who was born Feb. 15, 1891, near Lincoln, Nebr., had resided in the Cottage Hills-Bethalto area for the past 15 years. He had been employed as heavy equipment operator for the excavating firm for 15 years previous to his retirement two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alberta Santa Cruz, to whom he was married March 28, 1952; two daughters, Mrs. Melba Ayles and Mrs. Elma Brown of Sheridan, Wyo., and a son, Cecil of Peoria, children of a former marriage; two brothers, George of Portland, Ore., and Oscar of San Diego, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Ada Waits of San Luis Obispo, and six grandchildren. A brother, a sister, a son and a daughter, preceded him in death.
The body is at Smith Funeral Home, Bethalto, where the Rev. Wayne Hoxsie, a Presbyterian minister, will conduct rites Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, near Edwardsville. Friends may visit the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
