First murder victim of serial killer Henry Louis Wallace. She met him sometime around 1989-1990. She was a high school senior in Barnwell, S.C. She was just 18 years old. She was pretty and bright-eyed. Mr. Wallace had a crush on her and wanted to dated her.
Bethea was an 18-year-old high school senior in Barnwell when she first attracted Wallace's attention. The two had a family connection: Their mothers worked at the same factory and were friends.
Mr. Wallace was a person of interest in her murder after her body was discovered in the lake by two fishermen on April 1, 1990, several weeks after she was reported missing in March 1990. He was questioned in connection with her disappearance and murder but was let off because there wasn't enough evidence to arrest him.
Four years later, when he confessed to killing 10 young Black women in Charlotte, he finally confessed to killer Miss Bethea as well.
To this day he was never formally charged with her murder even after confessing to the police about Ms. Bethea's death. As for her family, they were both relieved and saddened by the fact that this man whom Ms. Bethea trusted was a murderer of not only Tashanda, but 10 other women.
He's currently on death row awaiting his execution.
May Ms. Tashanda rest in peace.
