Shirley Pond, age 81, of Dowagiac, MI passed away on Aug. 3, 2006, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles, MI

Shirley's life began on Oct. 2, 1924, in Dowagiac, the daughter of Milton and Mamie (Marshall) Hyatt. She has been a lifelong resident of the area. On June 3, 1943, she was united in marriage to Delbert Pond in Cassopolis, MI

Shirley worked at Harding's Market for many years. She is a member of the Victory Tabernacle Church in Dowagiac. She also belonged to the Dowagiac Moose and Eagles Clubs.

Her loving family includes her children — Sandy (and her husband Jim) Coons of Cassopolis, Mary (and her husband Al) Holiday of Cassopolis, David (and his wife Shari) Pond of Cassopolis, and Leroy (and his wife Brenda) Pond of Dowagiac; daughter-in-law, Penny Pond; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Laverne Ruff of Dowagiac; brothers — Lester and Richard Hyatt of Dowagiac and Donald Hyatt of Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert in 1995, and her son, Rick Hyatt.

Her family will meet friends on Monday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., led by the Rev. Dorothy Blassingame and Pastor Jerry Jackson of Victory Tabernacle.

Shirley will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, MI following the service. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Cass County Hospice.
