Death: Apr. 15, 2006

Norman B. Behrents, age 90, of Menomonie, Wis., passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006, at his home.

He was born September 9, 1915, in Lyndal, Norway, to Govert and Amelia (Opsal) Behrents, and came to the U.S. in October of 1915. His family settled in Woodford, Wis., then Milan, Minn., and finally in Dunn County, where he grew up near Menomonie. Norman married Lorraine Hovind on August 4, 1939, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Menomonie, and together they farmed north of Menomonie until 1975. An avid fisherman and hunter, Norman was a long-time member of the Dunn County Fish and Game and was secretary/treasurer of the Tri-county Conservation Club when it was first organized. He was a member of the Cedar Falls school board and served on the County Committee, the ASC, and the building committee for the new consolidated school district at Cedar Falls. He was also a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Menomonie.

After retiring from farming, Norman traveled with Lorraine in their motor home through the U.S., wintering in Florida and Arizona. He also traveled to Norway and toured throughout Europe.

Norman is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Menomonie; two daughters, Nancy (Harold) Kelsey of Eau Claire and Sally Close of Duluth, Minn.; grandchildren, Carol (Mike) Kersey of Huxley, Iowa, Paul (Adrienne) Kelsey of Prior Lake, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Alexa and Sophia Kersey; two sisters, Helen (Ted) Olechno of Menomonie and Alice (Arnie) Hovind of Menomonie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia and Govert; a brother, Einer; and four sisters, Borgild Espland, Olga Thorud, Jennie Kistner and Gerda Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Marilynn Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Falls Cemetery in the town of Red Cedar, Dunn County. Family and friends are welcome at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Menomonie or the church of donor's choice.

Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is assisting the family.
