Resided in Cumberland County where he enlisted at age 23, February 15, 1862 for three years in the 36th Reg. NCT (2nd Regiment N.C. Artillery). Appointed 1st Lieutenant to rank from Feb 15, 1862. Promoted to Captain Aug 1, 1862. Present or acc'td for through Aug, 1864. Captured at Fort Fisher January 15, 1865 and confined at Fort Columbus, N.Y. Harbor, until paroled & exchanged at City Point, VA, March 5, 1865.
When Octavious H. Blocker resigned on August 1, 1862 Lt. Braddy was promoted to Captain, the battery became known as "Braddy's Battery."
