Mrs. Harriett E. Cole - Funk was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Cole and was born in Ashland County, Ohio, on January 22, 1835. With her parents she came to this state in 1847 and settled on a farm near Kirkville. She was married to Elisha Funk on Aug. 26, 1852 and to this union were born six children -- W. H., of Lacona, Iowa, S. A., of Kirksville, Mo., T. T., J. F. and L. G., of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Mary Devol, of Oskaloosa, all of whom survive her. Her husband preceded her to the better world on Feb. 28, 1893.
The deceased was converted and united with the M. E. church when a girl and has lived a devoted and zealous member to her death. She moved to Fremont a couple of years ago and died at the home of her daughter in Oskaloosa on May 20, 1912, while on a visit at that place.
She was a true and loving wife an a tender and devoted mother.
She is also survived by four brothers and one sister - T. R. Cole, of Lovilla, Dr. D. L. Cole, of Oskaloosa, J. F. and I. W. Cole, of Pierre, S. D., and Mrs. Mary Moore, of Cedar.
The funeral took place Wednesday, May 22, 1912, at the home of her daughter in Oskaloosa, her pastor, Rev. George Filmer, of Fremont, conducting the services and interment was made in the Kirkville cemetery.
