THOMASVILLE - Millard Clemmond Alford, 96, of Brian Center in Asheboro, formerly of Lexington, died Monday night at the center.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Wheeles officiating. Burial will be in Emanuel United Church of Christ cemetery.

Mr. Alford was born March 7, 1889, in Randolph County, to James Milton and Annie Cheek Alford. He was a former employee of Amazon Cotton Mill, retiring in 1953. He was a veteran of World War I, and was a member of Patriotic Order of Sons of America. He was married to Ollie Sullivan Alford, who died in May 1945.

Surviving are three sons, Willard Alford of 200 Koontz Avenue, Charlie M. Alford of Lexington, and Harley Elroy Alford of 1122 Fisher Ferry Street; two daughters, Ailene Biles of Asheboro, and Leona Summers of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, and four sisters, Maude Varner of Lexington, and Nan Armsworthy, Bertha Black and Ruth Alford, all of Thomasville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of a son, Willard Alford at 200 Koontz Avenue.
