William enlisted in September 1852, Pikesville, Marion County, Alabama and served in the Confederate Calvary, Company B. 10th Alabama Regiment.
He surrendered with his unit at Nashville, Tennessee in 1865.
William was near his home when released at the end of the war and would have had to travel 200 miles to be discharged. He was unable to go that distance, so did not receive his discharge papers.
