Anderson Family:

Wade Hampton Anderson and William Van Zandt Anderson, brothers who married sisters, came to Hopkins County, Texas, in 1870 and settled a few miles south of Sulphur Springs. The brothers had married Mary Elizabeth (Molly) and Asha Ellen Worsham, daughters of James A. Worsham and Maria Grimes Worsham, in a double ceremony 3 August 1865, in Harrison County, Texas. Their parents were Hampton Anderson and Mary Williams.

Wade Hampton Anderson was born in Elysian Fields, Texas, 7 Mar 1844. He enlisted in the Confederate army at Smith County, Tyler, Texas, 2 September 1863. He served as a private in Company E of the 37th Texas Cavalry, formerly called Terrell's regiment of the 34th Texas Cavalry. According to military recoreds, he was present for roll call on 7 January 1864 in Galveston City, Texas. (The Springfield rifle which he used is still in the family.) After the war, he returned to Harrison County, Texas, where he married Mary Elizabeth (Molly), and around 1870 both Anderson brothers, their wives, and James Worsham's family went to Hopkins County. Wade and Molly had four children before he died from a war wound on 5 June 1873. He was buried in New Hope Cemetery near his farm. His widow, Molly, married W. L. Gafford, another pioneer citizen of Hopkins County. It was her second marriage, but his third. They had four children who were half-brothers and half-sisters to Wade's children.

William Van Zandt (Billy) Anderson was born 1 January 1842 he died 22 July 1923. He was also a farmer in the New Hope area south of Sulphur Springs, Texas, after moving his family from Harrison County. He and his wife, Asha Ellen, had eight children before she died in 1889. They are both buried in the New Hope Cemetery.

The Andersons are descended from the lineage of the Reverend James Anderson, born 17 November 1678, in Scotland, educated under Principal Stirling of Glasgow, and ordained by Irvine Presbytery on 17 November 1708. Reverend Anderson sailed for Virginia 6 Mar 1709, and he arrived in Rappahannock the following April.
