Samuel A. Reed, Sr., 104, of Hummelstown, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the Blue Ridge Mountain Nursing Home, Susquehanna Township.
Born in *Mt. Airy on December 20, 1903, he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Annie M. Reigel Reed.
Sam retired as a Master Machinist for the former Reading Railroad. He was affiliated with the Chambers Hill United Methodist Church. Sam served with the Army National Guard. He was an avid reader; and enjoyed gardening and model making. Sam was very proud that he voted in every election since the Calvin Coolidge election in 1924.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam E. Gerhart Reed, on July 3, 1994.
Sam is survived by one son, Samuel A. Reed, Jr. husband of Janet of Campbelltown; two daughters, Nancy M. Noblet of Bearfoot Bay, FL, and Shirley R. Eckard wife of George of Rutherford; one sister, Mary B. Ames of Hummelstown; four grandchildren, Lea Ann Reed wife of Robert Jenkins of Blue Ball, Duane Reed husband of Gayle of Medford, OR, Bonnie Noblet Ollinger of Melborn, FL, and Fred Noblet of Bearfoot Bay, FL; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Sam was also preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 11 AM in the Chambers Hill United Methodist Church, 6300 Chambers Hill Road, Harrisburg with The Rev. Stephen G. Portner officiating. Interment will be in the Stoverdale Cemetery.

*I found Sam in the 1910 census which is the closest census to his birth and at the time he lived in Swatara Twp. Dauphin County, Pa. with his parents of course. There are five Mt. Airys on the list in Pa. and the closest is Lancaster County but ther is no evidence of Sam living in any of the five so I left is blank.
