John A. Graver, 93, of Rush Center, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at St. John's Health Care Center in Hays.
He was born Feb. 26, 1914, in rural Pawnee County, to Andrew Jackson and Viola Mae Wagner Graver. He graduated in 1932 from Larned High School.
A lifetime resident of Pawnee and Rush counties, Mr. Graver was a farmer and stockman until retiring. He was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of La Crosse and served as director of the Kansas Sheep Association, Mid-State Wool Marketing Board in Columbus, Ohio, Rush Center Co-op Board for 33 years and the Federal Land Bank Board for many years. A member of the Fair Board for 33 years, he served as its president in 1950. He also served on school boards at Chilly Knob, Rush Center, Rush Center Grade School, La Crosse Rural High School and the Unification of Country Schools.
On Feb. 28, 1933, he married Hulda M. Schraeder in Stockton. She died June 13, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas J. Graver; an infant son, Glee A. Graver; and two sisters, Faye Kline and Lillian Graver.
Survivors include a son, Robin E. Graver of Hays; two daughters, Joy A. Barton of Scott City, and Amber S. Reifschneider of Dighton; two brothers, Leon Graver of Larned, and Wilbur Graver of Hays; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, with the Rev. Darlene Nonhof officiating. Burial will be in Ash Valley Cemetery, Larned.
