Died 24 May 1863 at Fitzhugh House Hospital from wounds received in action 29 Apr 1863 at Reynolds' Crossing in Virginia. Attached to Company E of the 14th Regiment of the New York State Militia. Second Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Bloomfield was shot in the left shoulder by a rebel sharpshooter perched on a ledge while leading his men to the charge at Reynolds' Crossing. He lived for almost a month afterwards, but the ball had passed too close to his heart to allow him to recover from the wound.
