Helen G. Setterlund, 95, Willmar, formerly of Pipestone, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Bethesda Pleasantview, Willmar.
Memorial services will be held Monday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with Rev. Steve Knudson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone.
Helen Gertrude (Hiebert) was born on May 31, 1908 in Mountain Lake, the daughter of David G. and Marie (Dirks) Hiebert. She grew up in Mountain Lake where she graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1925. Helen continued her education at the University of Minnesota graduating in 1931. Following graduation she taught at Elbow Lake until 1935.
On May 31, 1935, Helen married Ray D. Setterlund at Elbow Lake. They lived in Breckenridge until 1947 when they moved to Owatonna until 1951, when they moved to Pipestone. Helen did substitute teaching in Pipestone. On Feb. 18, 1972, Ray preceded her in death. Helen continued to live in Pipestone until 1990, when she moved to Willmar.
She was baptized at Mountain Lake and later confirmed at Breckenridge. While living in Pipestone Helen was an active member of First Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, serving with the women's group and being a Bible teacher. She was a member of Vinje Lutheran in Willmar at the time of her death where Helen had been active with the Mission Quilters and circle.
She is survived by her children, David Setterlund, Fairfield, Ark., Mary (Jon) Winge, Willmar, John Setterlund, Urbana, Ill. and Ruth Hoag, and special friend Ed Frerk, Crosslake; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Adams, Ft. Collins, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and four sisters, two in infancy.
