Obituary - Matt was born November 15, 1942 in Mankato to Dr. John A. and Frances (Rock) Butzer. He was a graduate of Loyola High School and continued his education for a journeyman machinist apprenticeship. On December 28, 1963 he married Carol Bruss in Mankato. Matt served his country in the U.S. Navy 1960-1963 as a hospital corpsman. During his working career he worked as a master machinist, master tool and die, and general foreman. He had been employed by Continental Can, Crown Cork and Seal, and Kato Engineering, retiring in 1998. Matt had many interests: He enjoyed small engine repair, carpentry and building, working on cabins, outdoor activities, snowmobiling, motorcycling, computers, music, and cribbage. He was a member of Mensa, Eagles Club and Kato Cycle Club. Matt is survived by his wife, Carol of Mankato; daughters, Anne (Scott Spargo) of Minneapolis, Mara (Mike Hanson) of North Mankato; son, Matthew (Tracy Olson) of Amery, WI; assorted grandmammals; brothers, Paul (Shirley) Butzer of North Mankato, Dr. Mark (Karen) Butzer of Portland, OR, Karl (Neva) Butzer of Oro Valley, AZ, Luke Butzer of LeSueur, Dr. Stephen (Patricia Cole) Butzer of Lake Elmo, Tom (Bridget) Butzer of Minneapolis; sisters, Judy (Bob) Small of Bakersfield, CA, Mary Butzer SSND of St. Paul, Susan Henning of Bozeman, MT, Gretchen (David) Jewison of St. Johns, MI; sister-in-law, Betty Butzer of North Mankato; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Jack Butzer; and his parents, Dr. John A. and Mrs. Frances Butzer. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be 1/2 hour before services. Manakto Free Press; 11/4/2008
