Mrs. Alice Kegley Hale was born April 8, 1865 and entered into eternal rest on June 22, 1909. She was the eldest of three children of Mr. D. C. and Mrs. Fannie Kegley. She was married to Mr. Hix Hale when about fifteen years of age. To this union was born three children, two sons, Lonnie and Emmett of Crockett and one daughter, Mrs. C. B. Dodd of Roanoke, who with their father survive her, as does also her father and mother and brother, Mr. Guido Kegley of Radford, and sister, Mrs. Thomas Davidson of Crockett. Sweeter family ties are seldom broken than those severed by the hand of Him who doeth all things well when Alice Hale was summoned beyond the Great Divide. For she was as wife, mother, daughter and sister a model of unselfish devotion, a kind friend and neighbor. A congenial companion, no party was dull that claimed her presence. She was truly a lovely character. In her early girlhood she united with the Christian Baptist Church. She suffered long but bore it with wonderful patience and in her last days expressed a willingness to go. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. MN. Watson in his usual sweet and impressive manner to a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends who had gathered at Mt. Ephraim Church to pay the last tribute of respect to the remains of one they had loved in life. The beautiful casket was borne to the identical spot selected by herself by Messrs. Robert Davidson, Stephen Sult, Erastus Spracker, Andrew Miller, Nelson Ager and Oscar Clarke. The flowers were carried by Misses Clark, Pearl Davidson, Hattie Davidson, Mae Ager, Vina Phillippi and Lula Lewis. May the God of love hover about the bereaved loved ones in this dark hour of distress with healing in His wings and heal their bleeding hearts. Sleep on dear Alice and take thy rest, God called thee home, for it was best.
